Behind the Lens: A Morning with Cherry Healey
Some shoots just have that perfect mix of creative energy, laughter, and magazine-worthy magic – and that's exactly what happened when TV presenter Cherry Healey welcomed us into her home for Women's Fitness and Top Santé Magazine.
As a celebrity photographer who loves adding pops of colour to every shoot, I couldn't wait to transform Cherry's home into a vibrant pop-up studio. With my signature collection of coloured backdrops and pro lighting setup, we had the freedom to create everything from high-energy fitness shots to elegant editorial portraits - and even capture some impromptu moments with Cherry's absolutely gorgeous fluffy cats!
Working collaboratively with Cherry, celebrity makeup artist Cinta Miller, and magazine editor Katy Sunnassee, we crafted a variety of looks that moved effortlessly between polished cover shots and natural editorial moments. There's something magical about those shoots where everyone's creative energy aligns - and Cherry brought her trademark enthusiasm to every single frame.
Creating the Cover Magic
The joy of being a headshot photographer is capturing those authentic expressions that make a magazine cover sing. For Women's Fitness, we played with dynamic movement - think pink boxing gloves and skipping ropes - while Top Santé called for a mix of polished portraits and natural lifestyle moments. Having a portable studio means we could switch seamlessly between looks, creating studio-quality shots while keeping that relaxed, at-home feeling.
Colour Stories That Pop
One of my favourite parts of any shoot is playing with colour combinations that make my subjects shine. Working with the magazine team's carefully curated wardrobe (including that stunning yellow power suit!), we chose complementary backdrop colours to create images that would leap off the page. From vibrant pink and blue athletic wear to elegant corporate looks, each setup was designed to capture a different facet of Cherry's personality.
Pro Studio, Anywhere You Need It
As a photographer, one of the things I love most is bringing my professional studio setup to wherever my clients need me. For this shoot, transforming a corner of Cherry's home into a magazine-worthy studio space meant we could blend polished editorial shots with relaxed at-home moments. Whilst most of my headshot photography takes place at my Exeter studio, having a fully portable professional setup means I can create that same level of quality anywhere - perfect for magazine shoots like this where we're working with a whole creative team.
