River & Rowing Museum Henley Wedding – Derek + Shella

Shella and Derek knew they wanted a special venue for their wedding, right by the water – and they had two amazing locations – The River and Rowing Museum and Temple Island Meadow both in Henley on Thames!

The ceremony was held at Henley’s River and Rowing Museum in full view of the river Thames and all its boats floating past. Shella and Derek had made a thousand origami little paper birds to decorate the place and they had a traditional Chinese tea ceremony immediately after the civil ceremony.

All the guests were then transported down the river by boat from Hobbs of Henley to Temple Island Meadow, where a huge indian style teepee from Beautiful World Tents was set up right on the banks of the river. Shella and Derek had organised so many fun things to keep their guests entertained – I especially loved the photobooth which had everyone in stitches!

The interior of the teepee was incredible. Shella loves colour, and it was so fun, funky and vibrant! There were loads of little touches like postcards from all the guests (the RSVPs), a map showing all the places the couple had travelled together and the chillout area was so cool!

The wedding cake was a selection of amazing cupcakes from http://www.animacupcakes.com/ and Shella’s stunning dress was Tabitha by Charlotte Balbier.

After a yummy South East Asian dinner and the speeches, everyone headed outside into the night air to set off paper lanterns. They looked magical floating off into the sky… until one got stuck in a tree that is, and then I saw Derek’s face begin to imagine a huge tree alight with flames… Eek! Fortunately it burned itself out, but it was a bit touch and go!

Derek and Shella had their own cute red heart lantern and I think the image at the end of the night of them watching it arise into the sky is one of my favourites from the whole day.

Hope you enjoy the images guys!

Villa Giona – Beautiful Destination Wedding Venue in Italy

Last week I was out of the office for a very lovely trip to Villa Giona near Lake Garda in Italy to be the photographer for Bren and Julie’s beautiful destination wedding.

I travelled with good friend and fellow photographer Sarah Vivienne which was really nice as we saw so many beautiful things, it would have been a shame to travel by myself!

We arrived two nights before the actual wedding as we also covered Bren and Julie’s pre-wedding BBQ at the Villa, and arriving to see the villa lit up in the evening was truly breathtaking. What a gorgeous venue! Statues, vineyards, fountains and a beautiful building – it couldn’t have been more bella italia!

I recommend all couples who haven’t got their venue booked as yet to consider having a destination wedding at Villa Giona (and take me to do the photos, naturally!). Half way between Venice and Milan, it is really easy to get to by air, and the countryside is spectacular. The villa itself made the most beautiful location for a full wedding day – the ceremony was held outside with the vineyards in view, and the wedding breakfast (a magnificent five courses – which despite not having lunch Sarah and I could not manage to finish!) was also outdoors by the beautiful fountain. Even the suite where Julie got into her dress made a unique backdrop for her bridal portraits and should be used for a fashion shoot if it hasn’t already. Beautiful!

Here are a few highlights, and there are so many of my favourites that I will have to split them over several posts – so check back tomorrow for more!

1920s vintage teaparty wedding – Adam and Vicky’s

I was really excited to shoot at my friend Vicky Vale’s beeeeautiful 1920s vintage teaparty wedding over the water at Treowen House, Monmouthshire as she wed her beau Adam!

Vicky runs a vintage crockery hire company in Bristol, and amazingly all the crockery set out for the wedding belongs to her (plus the hard-working gal even did another wedding hire the same day!).

Fortunately the weather held off long enough for a touching outdoors ceremony, with all the guests dressed up to the nines in their 1920s outfits! The bridesmaids also looked awesome in their cool flapper gowns!

Vicky has such a great creative imagination and this was shown throughout all the amazing details she’d thought of to delight her guests : beautiful wild flowers in china teacups, fairies caught in jam jars and appearing in other random spots around the house, 1920s flapper bands for guests who’d forgotten theirs and the most unique table plan I’ve ever seen, hanging down from the ceiling!

Vicky looked stunning in her 1920s dress and authentic 1920s jewellery and Adam looked absolutely great in his top hat and tails! It was a very emotional and moving day, really lovely!

Have a fabulous honeymoon Vicky and Adam!!

Notley Abbey wedding – Ashley + Roberta

On Thursday I had the pleasure of shooting with my friend and fellow wedding photographer Sarah Vivienne at Ashley and Roberta’s lovely celebrations at Notley Abbey near Aylesbury. It also gave me a great excuse to stay overnight and see my baby cousin Philip who lives with my Aunt and Uncle five minutes down the road from the venue!

I helped Sarah by doing candid photography of the guests and detail shots while she was the main photographer for the day. I really enjoy occasionally shooting with other photographers when one of us has a particularly long or big wedding to cover. It’s nice to have someone to chat to and it’s also interesting watching how other photographers work!

I loved all the special details – it really was a gorgeous wedding, very elegant! I especially loved the whiskey favours for the guys, the cath Kidson bath soaps for the girls, the silver candlesticks against beautiful flower arrangements and the lovely nameplaces.

Warbrook House, Wokingham wedding – Kat and Rob

Kat and Rob’s wedding at Warbrook House in Wokingham last weekend was rockin! They had a fab musical theme which extended to the cake, the cool guitar favours and the fantastic bouncy castle! Plus after a pretty soggy week, the sun came out with only a few intermittent showers which was perfect for enjoying the bubble machine outside!

Also FYI Kat is a pretty kickass personal trainer – you can check out her site here!

Kingston Bagpuize House Wedding – Camille + Basile

Basile and Camille plus their gorgeous little daughter Valentine are French – so it was no surprise that their wedding was absolutely wonderful and chic!

As most of their guests were traveling from France to Oxford for the wedding, they decided on an English theme and had lots of really fun little touches including a red London double decker bus to transport their guests to the reception venue – the extremely gorgeous Kingston Bagpuize House.

Camille blew me away with all the attention to detail she had thought of, including some amazing treats for her guests – there were so many exciting things to document! The children enjoyed treasure hunts, pony rides and picnics during the wedding breakfast, while the adults helped themselves to mini-fish n chips, Pimms & lemonade, fabulous Victorian masks and played croquet on the lawn.

St Pauls Cathedral Wedding – James + Stephanie

Had a fab time photographing James and Stephanie’s fantastic wedding last weekend at St Paul’s Cathedral in Central London, followed by an amazing Hong Kong themed reception at nearby Skinners Hall.

The day started by meeting up with James and his best man having a cut throat shave at the oldest barbershop in the world, the very gentlemanly Truefitt & Hill near Green Park – definitely a sophisticated way to start your wedding day! It made for some really fun photographs – especially of James looking pretty worried as the blade edged towards his throat!

Stephanie and her bridesmaids were getting ready at the stunning 5* Thameside County Hall Marriott Hotel , which was right by the London Eye and then it was a quick hop for me and my second shooter Sarah in a black cab over to St Pauls.

The arrival of any bride is always a highlight, but when it’s at St Pauls with a crowd of hundreds of tourists getting excited – and she arrives in a stunning white 1950s cadilliac, this was really something else!

After the ceremony we took the opportunity to shoot a few romantic portraits around St Pauls, and then down to the Millennium Bridge – which was slightly busier than anticipated! However, this made for lots of congratulatory well wishers – and James and Stephanie even met another couple who were having their own wedding anniversary that day which was very special!

Old Luxters Barn Wedding – Claire and Luke

Claire and Luke couldn’t have picked a more gorgeous crisp afternoon for their special day. Their service was held at St Marys in Old Amersham, which was followed by wedding portraits at Danesfield House & Spa near Marlow and a gorgeous reception at Old Luxters Barn in Hambleden near Henley on Thames.

Claire chose an autumnal theme for the wedding and the bouquets (made by her new Mum-in-law) in beautiful burnt oranges and ambers were absolutely stunning.

We had a great time shooting the couple’s portraits at Danesfield House. Claire and Luke had set a whole hour aside for these special photos while their guests went on ahead to the reception, so we had a wonderful opportunity to get creative and try out lots of beautiful ideas. I loved using Danesfield House as a backdrop – not only is the building itself beautiful, but the gardens – especially the views across the River Thames below are just out of this world!

On arrival at the reception venue Old Luxters Barn one of the couple’s friends played the beautiful grand piano while the guests enjoyed champagne and canapes in the marquee. The wedding breakfast was then served inside the lovely old barn, with all the hops hanging down.
