Eeking out the last of the sunshine at Thurlestone Beach!

I am writing this while feeling very virtuous, sipping on my peppermint tea with sweetener. Oh yeah baby, four weeks of no sugar – feeling very pleased with myself! Along with exercising I have lost ten pounds so far, so I’m feeling very encouraged!! Really looking forward to getting back to my old healthy self and taking care of me more!

Hasn’t this year been amazing for weather?! We have had such a beautiful long summer – and every time I think it’s over and autumn has definitely arrived, it goes and surprises me with another balmy hot weekend!

To make the most of the sunshine, a couple of weekends ago I took the kids and my Mum to discover Thurlestone Beach in South Devon. A few friends had recommended it but we love Salcombe so much that if we are traveling that far (about 1.5 hours from our house) we usually just go there.

But wowzers, I am so glad we took the time to discover somewhere new! Although the sand is a bit more gritty than Sandy Bay at Salcombe the amazing warm and shallow rock pools more than made up for that! The children absolutely loved it! A definite must visit if you are ever down this way!

As you can see, I took my camera but the conditions were fierce! Bright, bright sun – no clouds and no shade anywhere. It was extremely challenging! What I tried to do was to shoot with the sun to the side of the children so they wouldn’t squint or have dark shadows. I turned a lot of the pictures into black and white as I just felt that they had a lovely timeless quality. I do hope the children will be close as adults and that these kind of photos will really mean a lot to them. What a lovely place to spend your childhood, playing with your brothers and sisters!

And of course, last week we had our Autumn photo challenge! As usual there were loads of fab entries and actually quite a few without people or children in them which was fun to see! But one shot really stood out for me, and that was this one by Kayleigh Louise Pontin.

Congrats Kayleigh – what a stunning shot!

Why does this image work so well?

It’s not your typical autumn scene per se, but what I love is Kayleigh’s daughter’s autumnal outfit and the posing which is really great! I love the looking over the shoulder pose – it’s given her daughter something to do with her handstand because of this her daughter is nice and relaxed for the photo. It looks great! Definitely one for the photo album Kayleigh!!!

This week’s challenge! SPOOKY!

As it’s Halloween this week how about setting a spooky challenge?! Or if your kids are not into being spooked (all of mine totally freak out at anything like that!) then you can also include any form of fancy dress or decorations in your local area, pumpkins etc! It could be quite a challenge with the darker nights drawing in so a great opportunity to try out the higher range of ISO settings on your camera and to see if you can get a nice shot at dusk!

Can’t wait to see your pics!

See you next week and have a great Halloween!
